Beginning in 2019, hospitals are required to post prices online in a format that can be easily imported and read into a person’s home computer (i.e. Microsoft Excel) . This pricing information may be confusing to patients and consumers as standard healthcare rates are similar to list prices and do not reflect what insurance companies and government programs actually pay.
Patients concerned about potential out-of-pocket costs from a hospitalization or clinic visit are advised to consult with their insurer. Most insurance plans have an annual limit on how much patients must pay in co-pays and deductibles — although traditional Medicare does not.
